The D in full effect

PICTURES NOW AVAILABLE!!

Well then...

I headed to The D this last weekend to venture deep within the Super Bowl XL activities that drenched our fair city. Well... I went down there, OK. My friend Lindsay and I went down there on Saturday to just experience the craziness of it. We ate first in Mexican Town... mmmmmm delicious!!!

We then drove into the frey around 6:30-ish to try to find parking. We were not about to shuttle it in, then have to deal with finding a shuttle to get back to our car. We spotted some random parking lot near GreekTown Casino... right near Ford Field. We pulled up to the guy and asked if it was full and how much (the signs said $30). The guy looks at me and says, "We are full, but you park for $40." Seriously? You think you can screw us out of $$$ because we are girls? Think again asshole. We drove around to another entrance to the same parking lot and another guy helped us park and said it was $30. So we parked and went into the nearest bar... The Cock-N-Bull. Ha! I know, I laughed too.

So it is a $10 cover for a bar I'm sure has never charged a cover in it's existence. Beers are $5 each, but hey... it is the Super Bowl. Lindsay and I walked around in this crowded hole-in-the-wall bar and snagged a table as some girls were getting up. Some lady seemed pissed that we sat down, but or philosophy is, "You snooze you lose sucka." We sit at a table for four... there is just us two. Understandably, people are sort of pissed, but o-well. We drink, we talk, we meet randoms, it was fun. Super Bowl weekend in a random bar is not the best place for two ladies traveling alone. I'd have to say we each probably were grabbed and slapped on the ass quite a few times (Lindsay even being hit on by a married man... ). We also witnessed a guy who held a cup to his crotch and began peeing... right in the bar. Nice!

We ended up walking round the city for a little while after the bar and got to experience the craziness and freezing weather. Let's just say were were bundled, yet still frozen. We tried getting a picture as close to Ford Field as possible, but we couldn't get very close, it was gated.

After about 30 mins of walking around, we sought shelter in another bar. About a 1/2 hout later we had our fill of The D in full effect, so we decided to pack it in and head home. Simpler said than done. As we attempted to avoid the street traffic, Lindsay expertly maneuvered us to the expressway on sidestreets. Little did either of us know, we were headed the wrong way. Took us a couple tries, but we made it out of there alive and in one piece.

The D was cool this weekend, but it can't fool us. It is still a not-so-great-downtown-metropolis with a thin coat of paint slapped on it to save face in front of the world. It was fun though....
